The Ancoats Lad was designed and inspired by myself when I saw an old photograph of my father aged 5 playing on the street with his friends, they all had a little traditional coat on, buttoned up tightly, and although the photograph was in black and white, I could see each coat was a different colour from the shade. I asked my nanna about the coat and she replied they were very "fashionable" then because all the men who worked in the cotton mills in Ancoats, Manchester wore them at the time. So along came the Arthur Benjamin 'Ancoats Lad' coat.
